Escada was founded by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley in Munich in 1976, named after a racing horse. In 1978 they launched their first line with the goal of "democratization of elite haute couture" for women. Today the company offers clothing, shoes and accessories around the world, with an evolved focus on "cool glamour, sensual femininity and modern elegance."
